Tom-Schanz-Award

Once a year, the Friends of the Chair of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering and Environmental Geotechnics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum award the Tom Schanz Award to three outstanding Bachelor's theses. It is named after the chair's professor, Prof. Tom Schanz, who died in 2017. The plaques presented with the award show the idealised footprint of a dinosaur, thus commemorating Prof. Schanz's interdisciplinary and, for geotechnical engineering, quite unusual, yet extraordinarily exciting and challenging research in this field.
