Scientific exchange between members of the BGU Chair and Taiwanese Professors and researchers at three different universities

22.12.2022

Between 19.12 and 21.12 Peyman Mianji, Debdeep Sarkar, Frederik Koch, and Felipe Prada, members of the BGU Chair visited the National Taiwan University (NTU) in Taipei, the National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) in Taichung and the National Central University (NCU) in Taiyuan to exchange experiences in experimental techniques for soil characterization, 1G and ng models under cyclic and earthquake conditions. The group of researchers was warmly welcomed by Prof. Louis Ge (NTU), Prof. Chi-Chin Tsai (NCHU) and Prof. Wen-Yi Hung (NCU), with the coordination of our former guest researcher Dr. Fu-Hsuan Yeh (NTU).

As part of a research mobility grant sponsored by DAAD (Project-based personnel exchange programme Taiwan 2022-2024 ID 57602940) Peyman Mianji, Debdeep Sarkar and Frederik Koch held seminar presentations about their Ph.D. projects at the NTU, NCHU, and NCU universities in Taiwan. They sustained vibrant scientific discussions with Professors, postdocs, Ph.D. and master students at the three notorious Taiwanese Universities. The BGU group took also part in discussions with the local Ph.D. and Master students and had the opportunity to visit the soil mechanics laboratories and the university campuses at the three locations. A centrifuge model to test cyclic horizontal loading on piles embedded in kaolin was conducted during the visit at NCU in Taiyuan. The scientific programme was complemented with a cultural immersion in the rich and ancient traditions of Taiwan.
