This study delves into monotonic and high-cyclic triaxial loading, revealing intriguing findings about void ratio definitions, phase transformation line, and residual strain accumulation of a fine sand with various amounts of low-plastic fines.

How does the low-plastic fines content influence the critical state and mechanical behavior of fine sand? In a collaboration with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, we conducted an experimental study comprising monotonic to high-cyclic triaxial loading of a saturated fine sand mixed with varying amounts of low-plastic fines. It was found that while the choice of void ratio definition is important for the uniqueness of the critical void ratio, various approaches can be used as state variables for the phase transformation line. However, some seemingly contradictive results are found from the drained high-cyclic tests. Check it out in OA under the following Link
